About Us
Home Ownership for Personal Empowerment
HOPE's MISSION ...to create stable, affordable housing options for people with developmental disabilities.
Southern California Regional Centers works very closely with a non-profit corporation that provides special affordable housing opportunities for people who choose supported living. The organization is called Home Ownership for Personal Empowerment, or HOPE.
HOPE buys residential properties - single-family homes, duplexes, and condominiums - fixes them up, and rents them at below market rates to clients of the Regional Centers. (The rents are usually not more than 30% of the renter's monthly income.) A special feature of these homes is that every client has his or her own bedroom. Because the homes are owned by a corporation set up solely for this purpose, HOPE offers greater stability than most other community-based options.
HOPE is always expanding their real estate portfolio, renovating and upgrading existing properties and increasing their donor base and fundraising efforts. HOPE owns properties in Torrance, Long Beach, Bellflower, Lakewood, Culver City and North Hills. Presently over 100 adults with developmental disabilities live in the combined residences.
